Κάτι τέτοιο συμβαίνει και με ένα από τα ωραιότερα και πιο γνωστά γεφύρια της Ελλάδας. Ο λόγος για το Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς στα Τρίκαλα. Ένα ιστορικό γεφύρι πνιγμένο μέσα στο πράσινο, σε μια τοποθεσία απαράμιλλης ομορφιάς. Εξίσου όμορφη είναι και η διαδρομή για να φτάσεις έως εκεί, όπως εξάλλου συμβαίνει γενικώς με την περιοχή των Τρικάλων. Υπάρχουν πολλά που θα ανακαλύψεις όσο εξερευνείς την ευρύτερη περιοχή και σίγουρα τα Μετέωρα ανήκουν σε αυτά. Το Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς πάντως είναι ένα από αυτά που πρέπει να βάλεις στη λίστα σου για να επισκεφθείς με την πρώτη ευκαιρία.

Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς: Το στολίδι των Τρικάλων

Το Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς βρίσκεται σε απόσταση περίπου 35 χιλιομέτρων από την πόλη των Τρικάλων και συγκεκριμένα στο χωριό της Παλαιοκαρυάς. Πρόκειται για ένα εκπληκτικό γεφύρι με δύο τεχνητούς καταρράκτες το οποίο βρίσκεται εκεί από τον 16ο αιώνα. Μια κατασκευή σπουδαίας αρχιτεκτονικής της εποχής. Ένα μονότοξο πέτρινο γεφύρι με συνολικό μήκος τα 26 μέτρα. Ο καταρράκτης που βρίσκεται πίσω από το γεφύρι και συμπληρώνει το ειδυλλιακό σκηνικό έχει 12 μέτρα. Αν βρεθείς εκεί θα σε καθηλώσει η εικόνα του νερού που πέφτει από τους τεχνητούς καταρράκτες και θα νομίζεις ότι βρίσκεσαι στις σελίδες κάποιου παραμυθιού. Η κατασκευή του τοποθετείται γύρω στο 1500 ενώ οι εντυπωσιακοί καταρράκτες φτάνουν τα 12 και τα 2 μέτρα αντίστοιχα.

Το χωριό αλλά και το γεφύρι πήραν το όνομά τους από τον ποταμό Παλαιοκαρίτη. Στο παρελθόν το γεφύρι συνέδεε την Θεσσαλία με την Ήπειρο. Σήμερα αποτελεί ένα μνημείο φτιαγμένο από τα χέρια του ανθρώπου αλλά απόλυτα εναρμονισμένο με τη φύση. Γύρω από το Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς θα δεις απότομους απότομοι βράχους που χάνονται μέσα στην βλάστηση του σημείου.  Το χωριό της Παλαιοκαρυάς έχει επίσης την ίδια ομορφιά και παρά το γεγονός ότι είναι μικρό, είναι πολύ διάσημο και στους ντόπιους και στους επισκέπτες.

Σύμφωνα με την Παράδοση, η Παλαιοκαρυά δημιουργήθηκε από τον κλεφταρματολό Κουτσοδαίμονα. Ήταν το πρωτοπαλίκαρο του Στουρνάρα οποίος, όμως, αποσκίρτησε και κατέλαβε την περιοχή. Αναδείχθηκε νικητής της μάχης με το Στουρνάρα για τον έλεγχο του αρματολικίου του Ασπροποτάμου και διατήρησε την κυριαρχία του χωριού.Η ομορφιά του γεφυριού πάντως είναι τόσο επιβλητική που αυτός δεν είναι ο μοναδικός μύθος που το συνοδεύει. Λέγεται, λοιπόν, ότι μέσα από τα νερά του να αναδύονται νεράιδες. Το Γεφύρι της Παλαιοκαρυάς στα Τρίκαλα με τους καταρράκτες προσελκύει τους λάτρεις της φύσης και προσφέρει μια μοναδική εμπειρία με τα ονειρικά τοπία του.Η τοξωτή γέφυρα της Παλαιοκαρυάς, το φράγμα του Πορταϊκού στην Κάτω Παλαιοκαρυά, το δάσος της Κατούνας, κατάφυτο με έλατα και βαλανιδιές και οι κορυφές Γκρόπα και Καράβα, στολίζουν το τοπίο της περιοχής με ιδιαίτερη ομορφιά.

Η στρατηγική θέση και γιατί επιλέχθηκε το σημείο…

Τα φρούρια που επέλεγαν να χτίσουν οι Οθωμανοί ήταν πάντα σε στρατηγικά σημεία και καθόλου τυχαία τοποθετημένα εκεί. Το βασικό χαρακτηριστικό τους ήταν ότι είχαν μια θέση εποπτική και θα μπορούσαν να ελέγχουν την ευρύτερη περιοχή. Ένα τέτοιο κάστρο κατασκευάστηκε με απόφαση του Αλή Πασά Ιωαννίνων και στη Λευκάδα, σε μια ιδιαίτερη θέση. Ο λόγος για το Φρούριο Τεκέ ή αλλιώς το Κάστρο του Γρίβα το οποίο έχει τη δική του μεγάλη ιστορία μέσα στους αιώνες. Μπορείς, λοιπόν, πρώτα να μάθεις την ιστορία του και να το επισκεφθείς με την πρώτη ευκαιρία. Εξάλλου ολόκληρη η Λευκάδα είναι πανέμορφη. Εκεί βρίσκεται και η Εγκλουβή, το υψηλότερο χωριό του Ιονίου.

Φρούριο Τεκέ: Το κάστρο που έχτισε ο Αλή Πασάς δίπλα στη θάλασσα

Το Κάστρο του Γρίβα ή αλλιώς Φρούριο Τεκέ όπως είναι περισσότερο γνωστό βρίσκεται πολύ κοντά στη γέφυρα της Λευκάδας. Όπως είπαμε το σημείο που επιλέχθηκε για να κατασκευαστεί, μόνο τυχαίο δεν ήταν. Πρόκειται για ένα ιδιαίτερο και κομβικό σημείο από το οποίο μπορεί κάποιος εύκολα και αποτελεσματικά να έχει τον έλεγχο δύο δρόμων. Και του κανονικού αλλά και του θαλάσσιου οι οποίοι στην πραγματικότητα ενώνουν την Αιτωλοακαρνανία με τη Λευκάδα. Στην αρχή ο λόφος ήταν γνωστός για μοναστηριακό μουσουλμανικό κτίσμα που ήταν κατασκευασμένο εκεί από το 1668 και γι’ αυτό είχε την ονομασία «Τεκές». Όπως αποδείχτηκε, ο Αλή πασάς εκτίμησε τη στρατηγική αξία της θέσης και αποφάσισε να αξιοποιήσει το λόφο με την κατασκευή οχυρού.

Το 1806, όταν ο Αλή πασάς κατέλαβε τη Βόνιτσα και τη Πρέβεζα ήταν έτοιμος να κινηθεί και προς την Λευκάδα. Γι’ αυτό και το φρούριο ολοκληρώθηκε σε πολύ σύντομο χρόνο. Ήδη κατά τα τέλη του 1806 άρχισαν να συγκεντρώνονται στο φρούριο Τουρκαλβανοί αλλά η φρουρά της Λευκάδας είχε προλάβει να οργανωθεί και προετοιμαστεί. Τα επόμενα χρόνια ο Αλή πασάς παραχώρησε το φρούριο στην οικογένεια των Γριβαίων. Έτσι έμεινε γνωστό σαν «κάστρο του Γρίβα». Τον Μάιο του 1821, τα δύο οχυρά πολιορκήθηκαν από τους Έλληνες και τελικά κατελήφθησαν.

Το κάστρο του Γρίβα σήμερα

Αν βρεθεί κανείς σήμερα στην περιοχή θα διαπιστώσει ότι το Κάστρο διατηρείται σε πολύ καλή κατάσταση. Διατηρούνται αρκετά δωμάτια και αποθήκες σε αρκετά όμως από αυτά οι στέγες έχουν καταρρεύσει. Από τους πύργους του φρουρίου ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να θαυμάσει την υπέροχη θέα προς τον Αμβρακικό, το Ιόνιο και τη Λευκάδα.

We cast our eyes over some of the biggest investment trends dominating the headlines, ask what they mean for private
investors and wonder how they might play out in 2021.

Running of the bulls

Overvalued, in a bubble, inflated – a selection of current favoured ways to describe equity markets, particularly those in the US which hit record highs last year, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Since early 2009, the S&P has risen nearly 500%, recovering quickly after a sharp blip in March 2020.

However, as analyst Capital Economics points out (among other factors), though valuations for some equity markets look high by historical comparisons, this is justified by lower-than-average interest rates.

Swiss bank UBS notes that all the conditions (rapid rises in Bitcoin being one of them) indicative of speculative investing, which helps create equity bubbles, are currently present in the market. But, it argues, ultra-low interest rates and continuing government stimulus measures mean stocks and shares are still attractive.

That the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic was followed by the Roaring Twenties a century ago has led some commentators to revisit the phrase, but this time wondering if the boom can be replicated without the hangover.

Emerging markets

A weaker dollar, concerns over US equity valuations, a bounce back in commodity values and the potential for strong post-pandemic corporate earnings growth (28%, reckons a UBS note) has brought emerging markets back into focus.

David Bailin, Chief Investment Officer at Citi Private Bank, notes a general “movement to high growth Asian markets and a tactical move to Latin American markets” as two of Citi’s biggest investment themes.

Plenty agree. The benchmark MSCI Emerging Markets Index had already gained 9% during 2021 at the time of writing (21 January), largely driven by Asian tech and e-commerce businesses. Local stock markets have also hit record highs.

Not everybody has been swept along, with some investors citing the risks surrounding corporate and political governance for their reluctance. Bloomberg’s fear– greed indicator, which measures selling strength versus buying strength, for the MSCI measure, has climbed to its highest level since October 2011.

“New normal” opportunities

The two biggest industries to have garnered attention and opportunity during the pandemic are tech and healthcare. Formerly “disruptive” businesses like Zoom are now mainstream.

But will touchless technologies continue to dominate as the hangover from the pandemic rolls on? Could edtech and digital health be used to bridge inequalities across both advanced and developing economies? Will we still be using virtual hangouts when meeting in person becomes a viable option once more?

Identifying the “of-the-moment trends” and correctly identifying those that will constitute the “new normal” is where value will be found.

Joe Biden’s presidency also ushers in another kind of new normal. We discuss ESG investing in other articles, but Biden’s immediate reversal of his predecessor’s decision to leave the Paris Climate Agreement, and his less heralded, but arguably more important, moves on climate change accounting, will give a big boost to environmental investors.

Real estate’s appeal

In an environment of volatile equity markets and lower yielding bond markets, the investment case remains for the right sort of real estate.

As well as offering potential for diversification and inflation-hedge benefits, real estate that harnesses asset, geographic and market resilience has the potential to access the benefits of local growth drivers, the upside of structural change and recovery from the pandemic.

Different sectors capitalise on divergent trends. Residential assets take advantage of demographic changes, whereas data centres and life sciences capture the rise of innovation, which tends to occur during periods of dislocation.

Parts of the retail sector are facing the effects of an acceleration of structural changes that were already occurring before the pandemic, as e-commerce increases globally. Yet much of the industrial sector is benefiting from the same change and has continued to see firm relative demand.

The type of real estate targeted will depend on the portfolio balance. Some will be looking to capitalise on these trends but there is also evidence of continued weight of money targeting core, safe-haven income-producing real estate, such as offices, in the most liquid global centres that demonstrate market resilience.

The new gold

Cryptocurrencies, particularly the most notorious, Bitcoin, have been touted by their disciples as the new safe-haven alternative to gold since 2014.

Over 2020, the value of Bitcoin rose by more than 300%, breaking the US$40,000 mark for the first time in early January. This, however, was followed by a fall of US$10,000 in a matter of days, highlighting its volatility.

One thing supporting valuations is relative scarcity. While the supply of gold rises by around 1.25% each year, only 21 million Bitcoins will ever exist, with an estimated 18.5 million already having been “mined” and as many as 4 million “lost”.

Although regulators remain sceptical, funds and investment banks are starting to come on board, lending crypto a bit of wider credibility.
Those who bet big on Bitcoin last year have reaped rewards, with Forbes noting that the surge has even created new billionaires. But is this the ultimate bubble?

For those with a high appetite for risk the pay- off could be huge. JP Morgan suggests a long-term price possibility of US$146,000, while the more bullish Tyler Winklevoss has said its value could even rise as high as US$500,000. With such wild price instability, though, Bitcoin is unlikely to steal gold’s safe-haven status any time soon.

Part of me wishes I was Greek. Nothing excites me more, than the thought that one day I’ll be able to speak the language fluently and make myself understood. The beautiful, complicated words frustrate but excite me, and every time I understand something, it’s a small victory.
At the age of thirty, I’m finally here and it feels like this is where I belong.
Greece has always held a special place in my heart. Sun soaked family holidays on the Greek islands were filled with laughter, stuffed tomatoes and and peeking through the keyholes of dilapidated ruins.
In Skiathos we befriended a donkey, in Corfu we were gifted with eggs and wine, and in Samos we took a local bus to the beach and gorged on watermelon after an afternoon of snorkelling.
When I first met my husband to be, our love for Greece was a shared passion. Having spent a year in Crete at the age of eighteen, he nostalgically spoke of that long hot summer where he sped around on his moped without a helmet, scuba dived and ate pita gyros’s at midnight. “I’ve got to take you to Crete, there’s something special about that place,” he told me.
Those happy times were quite a contrast from the life we were living in the Southeast of England, which involved a repetitive sequence of working, eating, sleeping and watching television. The forecast for the future looked to involve doing the same for the next forty years, and it didn’t look very inviting. We were being swept along with the feeing that we had no other choice, our destiny was predetermined. We felt disillusioned; something was out of balance. In response, we bought material possessions, spent money and watched programmes about people who had left it all behind.

As we reflected, we recognised that in many respects, our English life was making us feel unhappy. What we really wanted from our lives was more time, freedom and a simpler existence. Additionally we wanted to live an outdoors lifestyle rather than being cooped up indoors.
Our mission to free ourselves led us to back to Greece; the country that seemed to have it sussed out, the place where we felt happy. We dreamed, discussed and analysed every detail, until one day, we took the plunge and waved goodbye to the UK. We stood excitedly on the threshold of our new life in Greece, hoping we’d made the right decision.
So have we found what we were looking for? Has Greece provided the answers? It’s a resounding yes.

Nowadays we are living the life we used to dream of, and feel aligned with our ideals. Greece has allowed us to be our true selves. The balance has been restored and we have a sense of control over our destiny.
Pouring our own olive oil over a homegrown salad, waking up at sunrise to let out our chickens, and swapping eggs for grapefruits have become our reality. There’s always time to soak up the sun, swim in the turquoise waters and sit with a glass of wine on the terrace. As the sky turns from orange to pink, we pinch ourselves whilst swatting away mosquitos.
But this lifestyle was never just about the sunny weather and beautiful beaches. It’s the people, language and history that also drew us here.
Since moving to Crete we’re gradually integrating ourselves into an island of people that are fiercely passionate about their customs and traditions. We’re beginning to speak their language, learn about the history of this ancient culture, pick wild edible greens, and drink frappe cappuccinos by the dozen.
In our village people are still living a traditional lifestyle. Everyone owns land and produces their own food. They are teaching us the old ways of growing and preserving. By moving to Greece we’re rebelling against this modern, fast paced world that has no time for us.
The other week we were talking to the lady at the village shop. She pulled up a couple of chairs, made us a Greek coffee and we sat opposite the till chatting in a mixture of Greek and English. As we left to walk back home, she ran out to give us an artichoke. I cast my mind back to our old lives, and realised that we are richer than we ever were in the UK. We’re rich in kind neighbours, delicious food, but most of all we’re rich in time.
As the well known Greek philosopher Socrates once said: ”The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.” I think he summed it up in that sentence; maybe being from Greece gave him the upper hand. It turns out that Socrates and my husband were both right; a simple lifestyle does bring you happiness, and there really is something special about the island of Crete.

Jutting southwards into the Aegean like Poseidon’s trident are the three peninsulas of Halkidiki, a popular weekend escape from Thessaloniki. Each stretch of land has a unique character, together forming a microcosm of the mainland’s charms.

It’s just after lunch on an late autumn afternoon, and Halkidiki is giving me the middle finger. Please pardon the expression. And the misdirection. There’s no uncouth confrontation here; no fiery argument that concludes with rude gesticulations and expletives. But there is an abruptness in the way that Sithonia — the second of the three ‘digits’ that point out from Central Macedonia into the Aegean — has dispensed with any suggestion of urban life.

One moment it’s there, in the towns of Arnaia and Polygyros. The next, it’s vanished, the road struggling southeast towards Ormos Panagias and Fteroti. Here the landscape is all flinty coves on rocky shores and pine-covered slopes, rearing up to the central peak of Mount Dragoudelis. 

The three ‘fingers’ of Halkidiki are a distillation of almost everything that’s evocative about Greece. Mount Athos, the easternmost of the trio, is its soul and sense of tradition. Even in 2021, visitors are only allowed to enter this enclave of 20 monasteries via special permits and observance of the rules — one being that women are excluded entirely. 

By contrast, Kassandra, the westernmost finger, is as welcoming an environment as you can find in the Mediterranean: a seek-and-hide destination where luxury resorts decorate the sands (Porto Sani and Sani Dunes on its west edge; Afitis Boutique Hotel on its east). 

But Sithonia, pinned between its two siblings, is different again. A simpler matter — lost neither in prayer nor five-star finesse. 

Evening is drifting in when I reach Porto Koufo, which adorns the middle fingertip. Tourism feels mildly more in focus here than in laid-back towns like Sarti, yet this is still a location for unfussy seaside escapes. Small studios and hotels are laid out at the top of a long inlet, next to a marina where a clutch of smart yachts at rest seem like intruders from another world. 

At Taverna Nikos, the menu is starting to think of winter, offering the slow-cooked stew of pork and local louvidia (string) beans that’s a staple of the ‘cold’ months in Halkidiki (when the mercury barely dips to coat-wearing weather by British standards). I eat it with one eye on the water. Porto Koufo is one of Greece’s largest natural harbours, but so secluded that German U-boats used it for unseen lurking during the Second World War. Mirroring its surprises and quirks, this fact makes Sithonia a literal case of a place with hidden depths.

Ο λόγος για τη Σπάρτη. Που διαφέρει από τη γνωστή Σπάρτη της Πελοποννήσου αλλά έχει τη δική της ομορφιά και την ιστορία της. Και της οποίας η ιστορία συνδέεται πολύ στενά με τον Αριστοτέλη Ωνάση και την αγάπη του για την Ελλάδα και τα ελληνικά νησιά.

Το έρημο ακατοίκητο νησί

Η Σπάρτη είναι σήμερα ένα μικρό και έρημο νησί. Δεν έγινε Σκορπιός και ούτε φημίζεται σαν τον Σκορπιό. Διοικητικά ανήκει πλέον στη Λευκάδα και μπορέις να το δεις από κοντά αν κινείσαι με σκάφος στο Ιόνιο. Μια βουτιά στα νερά του είναι σίγουρα μια εμπειρία μοναδική… Δες πού ακριβώς βρίσκεται ταξιδεύοντας με τους Google Maps. Κάποια στιγμή πέρασε στα χέρια του Ρώσου μεγιστάνα «βασιλιά της ποτάσας» Ντιμίτρι Ριμπολόβλεφ. Ο ίδιος ήθελε να το προσφέρει σαν δώρο στην 24χρονη κόρη του Εκατερίνα και την 12χρονη Άννα.

Το ρεπορτάζ της δημοσιογράφου Laurence Ogiela και της φωτογράφου Sandrine Renaud με τον χαρακτηριστικό υπότιτλο «Ανθεκτική σε όλες τις κρίσεις, η ελληνική πρωτεύουσα δονείται από μια δεύτερη πνοή, αξίζοντας πολλά περισσότερα από μια απλή στάση» παρουσιάζει με εντυπωσιακό τρόπο το φρέσκο, δυναμικό και αναγεννημένο πρόσωπο της ελληνικής πρωτεύουσας, τις ανερχόμενες γειτονιές της, το αθηναϊκό street art, τα καινούργια μουσεία και τους χώρους πολιτισμού, καθώς και τη νέα αθηναϊκή κουζίνα.  

Το γυναικείο περιοδικό «Version Femina» αποτελεί το πρώτο περιοδικό σε πωλήσεις στην κατηγορία του, ενώ το αναγνωστικό κοινό του είναι το μεγαλύτερο μεταξύ όλων των έντυπων γαλλικών ΜΜΕ καθώς ξεπερνά τους 8,5 εκατ. αναγνώστες κάθε εβδομάδα.

Τα 15 «αγαπημένα» νησιά των συντακτών της παρουσιάζει η Telegraph, επιδιώκοντας να προσφέρει έμπνευση στους Βρετανούς αναγνώστες της ώστε να ανακαλύψουν το ιδανικό ελληνικό νησί για εκείνους.

Σε άρθρο της με τίτλο «Ποιο είναι το καλύτερο ελληνικό νησί», η βρετανική εφημερίδα επιδιώκει να παρουσιάσει τα 15 νησιά που ενδείκνυνται για διαφορετικά ενδιαφέροντα στις διακοπές.

1. Kαλύτερο για τις παραλίες | Ζάκυνθος

Η Ζάκυνθος χωρίζεται σε δύο κύριες περιοχές: τις πιο ζωντανές παραθεριστικές πόλεις που καταλαμβάνουν τις νότιες ακτές (όπου φωλιάζουν οι θαλάσσιες χελώνες) και τις ορεινές και πιο δύσβατες βόρειες περιοχές που φιλοξενούν απομακρυσμένα χωριά και μερικούς απομονωμένους όρμους πολλοί εκ των οποίων είναι προσβάσιμοι μόνο από θαλάσσης.

Το νησί διαθέτει πολλά καλά οργανωμένα μουσεία και πολλές ευκαιρίες για να απολαύσετε τον τοπικό πολιτισμό, ενώ μια σειρά από φυσικά πάρκα και βιολογικά αγροκτήματα προσφέρουν την ευκαιρία να έρθετε σε επαφή με τη βιώσιμη πλευρά αυτού του καταπράσινου νησιού.

2. Καλύτερο για τις οικογένειες | Κέρκυρα

Η Κέρκυρα δελεάζει τους επισκέπτες της με το μεθυστικό συνδυασμό ιστορικών μνημείων, καταπράσινων πλαγιών, καταγάλανου ουρανού και αμμουδιών και παραλιών με βότσαλα και ήρεμα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά.

Βρετανικές και γαλλικές επιρροές παρατηρούνται στην ατμοσφαιρική Παλιά Πόλη της Κέρκυρας – ωστόσο, είναι προφανές ότι οι Ενετοί, που έμειναν περίπου 400 χρόνια, άσκησαν τη μεγαλύτερη κοινωνικοπολιτισμική επίδραση στο νησί.

Ενώ οι παραθεριστικές περιοχές βρίσκονται κατά μήκος μιας τεράστιας ακτογραμμής, οι ανατολικές ακτές, όπως ο Ύψος, η Δασιά, τα Μωραΐτικα και οι Μπενίτσες, είναι ιδιαίτερα δημοφιλείς και ιδιαίτερα φιλικές για τις οικογένειες.

Η τηλεοπτική επιτυχία της βρετανικής σειράς The Durrells, εμπνευσμένη από τη διασκεδαστική τριλογία του Gerald Durrell την εποχή που η οικογένειά του ζούσε στο νησί, προκάλεσε αναζωπύρωση του τουριστικού ενδιαφέροντος για την Κέρκυρα και προσέλκυσε πολλούς ενθουσιώδεις επισκέπτες για πρώτη φορά.

Επιπλέον, διαθέτει νέα πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία και ενδιαφέρουσες νέες προτάσεις γαστρονομίας, beach bar και νυχτερινή ζωή.

3. Καλύτερο για ιστορία και πολιτισμό | Δήλος

Η γενέτειρα του Απόλλωνα, σύμφωνα με τη μυθολογία, διαθέτει μερικά από τα πιο εκτεταμένα ερείπια από τη χρυσή ελληνιστική εποχή (και νωρίτερα) της κλασικής Ελλάδας. Όλο το νησί αποτελεί μνημείο παγκόσμιας κληρονομιάς της UNESCΟ και αποτελείται από ερείπια, τα οποία έρχονταν στην επιφάνεια συστηματικά από το 1872, συμπεριλαμβανομένων ναών, αγαλμάτων, ψηφιδωτών και θεάτρου. Οι επισκέπτες φτάνουν με καραβάκι από την κοντινή Μύκονο.

4. Καλύτερο για αριστοκρατικά ξενοδοχεία | Μύκονος

Τα ελληνικά ξενοδοχεία έχουν τη φήμη ότι είναι ρουστίκ – όχι όμως και στη μοντέρνα Μύκονο, η οποία έχει μερικά από τα πιο κομψά boutique καταλύματα. Ανάμεσά τους και το Cavo Tagoo. Αρχικά χτίστηκε πάνω σε ένα εγκατελειμμένο λατομείο το 1985 από τον ιδιοκτήτη-αρχιτέκτονα Πάρη Λιάκο, και ανακαινίστηκε πλήρως το 2007 και εξελίχθηκε σε ένα από τα πιο υπερσύγχρονα καταλύματα στο νησί.

5. Καλύτερο για το φαγητό | Κρήτη

Η Κρήτη, η πατρίδα του μύθου του Μινώταυρου, είναι ένα ζωντανό και αισθησιακό μωσαϊκό με αντιθέσεις: περιλαμβάνει από ψηλά βουνά και παραλίες με ροζ άμμο, μέχρι έντονη νυχτερινή ζωή και παραδοσιακά καφενεία. Τα ίχνη διαδοχικών εισβολών εντοπίζονται στα τουρκικά λουτρά, τα βενετσιάνικα φρούρια και τη βυζαντινή αρχιτεκτονική.

Ωστόσο, οι Κρητικοί αρνούνται να παραμείνουν στο παρελθόν: κάθε περίσταση είναι δικαιολογία για γλέντι που συνήθως περιστρέφεται γύρω από το φαγητό: σπιτικά λαχανικά, τοπικό ελαιόλαδο, σαλιγκάρια ή ρακί. Και (όπως θα σας πει περήφανα κάποιος Έλληνας) η Κρήτη είναι το πιο φιλόξενο νησί της χώρας.

6. Καλύτερο για ησυχία και γαλήνη | Κουφονήσια

Το Άνω Κουφονήσι είναι αρκετά μικρό για να το περπατήσει κανείς μέσα σε μια μέρα. Το παραλιακό μονοπάτι από το μικρό λιμάνι καταλήγει στο Πόρι, τη μεγαλύτερη από τις γαλάζιες παραλίες του νησιού.
