  • Buy2Greece.com-Fresh strike by Lufthansa pilots to partially paralyse airlines’ schedule

Flights were checked as cancelled’ on a flight information display near Christmas decoration sat the airport in Hanover,Germany, on three days, amid a pilot strike.

German carrier Lufthansa is facing yet another debilitating strike by its pilots, who said they’d walk off the job on Thursday. The strike, which has forced about three-dozen U.S. cancellations beginning Wednesday evening, is the pilots’ second strike this week and the 10th in 2014.

Pilots are upset over Lufthansa’s plans to make changes to its early retirement options. Currently, pilots can retire at age 55 and receive as much as 60% of their pay until they turn 65, when standard retirement benefits begin. German news network Deutsche Welle says Lufthansa “does not want new hires to fall under the plan (and) wishes to increase the early retirement age to 61.” The union wants no changes to the current program.

In fact, the announcement of the new strike comes as pilots already are involved in an ongoing strike that’s scheduled to wind down by the end of Tuesday. That disruption had forced Lufthansa to cancel half of its scheduled flights for Monday and Tuesday, grounding 1,350 flights — nearly half its schedule — and disrupting travel plans of about 150,000 passengers.

The Vereinigung Cockpit union said its latest walk-off would target Lufthansa’s long-haul and cargo flights on Thursday. The union said short- and medium-length flights would be unaffected.

The strike will affect numerous flights to North America. Lufthansa has already released a list of flights that would be grounded by the action. Among its U.S. destinations hit with cancellations for Wednesday evening and Thursday are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington.

In a statement Lufthansa said it could not afford the current scheme as it faces increased competition from both low-cost rivals in Europe and massive expanding Middle East airlines.

  • Buy2Greece.com – EU conveyancing becomes easier – in theory

A new conveyancing system has been developed to make it easier for buyers across the European Union to buy residential property in each others’ countries.

Through a new online service called NetPRO, overseas conveyancing lawyers will have access to resources supported by the European Land Registry Association to hand over title, boundary and dispute information.

Five countries have participated in the project so far: the Netherlands, England, Wales, Portugal and Spain.

Although th focus to date has been on English and Dutch buyers of property in Spain and Portugal – one of the biggest international markets within the EU – the system operated by NetPRO is generic and could be adopted by other EU countries.

The Land Registry was the lead body for England and Wales in the creation of the new system.

Meanwhile in other search-related news, STL Group plc – the largest independent search, anti-money laundering service, and EPC provider in the UK – has been acquired by Australian legal information service InfoTrack.

The STL brand will continue to be used by Stephen Wood, chief executive of InfoTrack, says this move takes advantage of the UK’s opportunity to have “a high quality, integrated search offering that doesn’t exist here yet.”

  • Buy2Greece – Ninth consecutive strike by Lufthansa pilots – 150000 passengers stranded

Over 1, 50,000 passengers were affected as 1350 Lufthansa flights were cancelled in the last two days. The strike was initiated by pilots of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, leading to the cancellation of short-haul and intercontinental flights.
Retirement benefit policy of the airline seems to be the issue of regular disagreement between the pilots and the management. This is the ninth consecutive strike this year. The German pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) representing nearly 5,400 pilots is opposing Lufthansa’s attempt to do away with a retirement plan that allows pilots to retire at 55, but continue receiving 60 % of their normal salary until the standard retirement age of 65 years.
Lufthansa announced that travelers who were affected by the strike can re-book their flights free of charge. Lufthansa, despite being Germany’s largest airline had to cut its profit projections for 2015 for the second time this year, thanks to rising costs and intense competition.
The airline is also expanding its low-cost service to counter tough competition from other carriers. Lufthansa however reveals that thanks to increase in demand and their “flexible demand-based capacity management,” the company has achieved acceptable traffic revenue by the third quarter of 2014.

  • Buy2Greece.com – Booming adventure travel market offers opportunity for increased revenues

The latest industry surveys suggest that adventure travel is a rapidly growing market. This offers an unprecedented opportunity for tour operators and travel agents to generate additional revenues by providing customized, branded travel protection plans that better address their customers’ needs, says industry expert Bill McGovern, president of McGovern Associates.  Citing recent studies, McGovern urges travel industry professionals to review their current insurance packages to ensure they are best suited to meet the needs – and expectations – of modern travelers, who are younger and more active.
“Nearly every tour operator offering an adventure travel product requires customers to take out insurance; and yet, they don’t always know what features are best to protect their clients as well as themselves,” said McGovern.

McGovern noted that adventure travel can be anything from bird-watching to climbing mountains, bicycling cross-country, shooting dangerous rapids and jumping out of planes. The needs of the extreme adventure enthusiasts are more obvious, but just because the adventure is “soft,” doesn’t mean that the risks are any less. Travelers are not always well-informed about their insurance options, and problems arise when they purchase “one size fits all” protection.
“We’re seeing increasing cases of disputes between travelers and their travel suppliers over what part of their insurance claims are covered under their policies,” said McGovern.  “For that reason, it’s important to review the wording in branded programs to ensure they properly protect all parties involved.  It begins with educating the supplier and their travel partners, and continues all the way to informing customers fully about their options and the scope of coverage provided by their protection plans.”

Adventure travelers are also typically younger, with an average age of 36, and often take multiple trips.  A travel agent who wins their loyalty is therefore practically guaranteed repeat business – and a customer for many years to come.
“In addition to helping them create the best itinerary, selling them the right protection plan offers an unprecedented opportunity for agents to build their business by fully meeting the needs of their customers,” said McGovern.
